Southern Idaho Aphid Monitoring Network

Description

Winged aphids captured in yellow bucket traps are collected and counted on a weekly basis to monitor timing of peak flights. In addition to yellow buckets, four tall suction traps are also utilized in select locations (Grace, Tetonia, Hidden Valley, and Aberdeen).

Impacted Crops

The traps primarily serve the seed potato grower, but since they are placed in both commercial and seed potato growing areas, other crops (e.g., small grains, quinoa) are served as well.

Who is Involved

University of Idaho personnel, growers, agronomists, and the Idaho Crop Improvement Association personnel help service traps. U of I personnel count aphids, then catalog and archive them for later identification.
